Splendid sky, oh how I love clouds! :-)

Ian, what camera do you use? Saturation of colours is perfect...

EOS 20D Canon, Rafal. This late summer storm did produce some heavy rain in parts of Sydney yesterday. I liked the light breaking through the clouds, too, right above the tower. For the Tongans this will have clear spiritual significance.

Thankyou for your appreciative comment, Rafal.

Dear Eva and Rafal,

The public officer of this Tongan community, Sioni, was with me this afternoon, and I showed him this photo and he was most impressed. I believe they will now want a large print that will be taken to their Annual Conference in Tonga in June. It is the lighting that impresses them the most, for "the glory shines upon the tower!"

Kind greetings,

Ian

It will be a very large building. Note that the square tower is not on the centre axis but near the corner, and the front wall is obscured in this image. It will be wider than St Mary's Catholic Cathedral in Central Sydney which I have elsewhere in my folio.

Malo e lelei 'Ieni,

We at the church have downloaded this and will be printing it. Thanks for taking it. We would like to put it on our church website. I hope you enjoyed being at the opening. It is now called King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV Memorial Church, which in Tongan is Falelotu Fakamanatu 'o Taufa'ahau Tupou IV.

It is a great photo.

Malo e lelei Opeti,

It has been a privilege to work with you, and to encourage Sione and all the team there. What a remarkable achievement it has been to complete, open and use this remarkable worship centre.

All those who came for my farewell were impressed, as I hoped and knew they would be. There have been a number who have specifically commented on the cruciform light! It is magnificent.

By all means add this to your church's website. But I would like an acknowledgement "Photo courtesy Ian Stehbens" to be added, if you don't mind.

The night photos will be added to this Panoramio site soon.

Tonga's Church in Australia built with hope, faith, pride now collapses under the weight of high interest rates and the incompatibility of two cultural systems.

It is with great sadness that I learn of this situation. I was told that "the paint company loan" was a donation, and the Tongan people understood that late last year a celebration was being held to rejoice in the final payment of all debts. Clearly this is not so!!!

There has been some justice done in this case, a case that has been decided in the Supreme Court of NSW.
