Canoeing on Yabba Creek, Imbil

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The 2 kilometres of Yabba Creek upstream of Imbil Weir, has always been popular with local children as a place to swim and play. Island Reach Camping Ground has increased its popularity with visitors. Canoeing and kayaking these reaches is a very pleasant activity.

This section of the river (or creek as it is locally called) has several local names in downstream order starting at Kropps Crossing, Stehbens Reach, then under the high level railway bridge into Town Reach, beneath the Imbil Town Bridge into The Big Hole and Island Reach, past the Ana Branch outflow, into Imbil Homestead Cutting, over the Imbil Weir, then over Imbil Falls into the Falls Swimming Hole.

These reaches of the Yabba are alive with platypus, Ceratodus, tortoises, a variety of fish including saratoga, freshwater mullet, yellowbelly and catfish.

Thank you Ebi. Shall I add it to the group? This photo was taken just this afternoon. I was hoping that the last rays of sun may have illuminated the paddlers and the jacarandas at the same time. Perhaps there will be a next time.

Kind regards from Imbil,

Ian

Hi Ian * of course, for my money it is still a good photo, even if you are not 100% happy with it. Regards Ebi

Indeed it was and is, Berend, but perhaps it is an even better place to retire.

Thanks for enjoying my home landscapes.
