Looks great this area Ian. Greetings Berend
You playing Google Earth again Ian :-) Looks a great bit of road. You can see your taxes at work there. cheers Gary
We cross this bridge frequently, Berend, for it is our entry point into Gympie from the Mary Valley. The bridge across the mary River is called the Normanby Bridge and it is a high level bridge. It is quite a marker for us in flood times, for when this bridge goes under, then we say we are having a major flood event.
The Bruce Highway passes under the approaches to the Normanby Bridge and crosses the Inglewood Bridge over Deep Creek.
Yes indeed, Gary. Went flying with my pilot again this week - Gympie to Bundaberg and return - return was along the coast including Fraser Island. Got to keep up with GE, mate. Love flying and photographing.
If that bridge is under water Ian, I think Qld has a problem. Greetings Berend
I think, from memory, that the southern end of the bridge is 51 feet above the river, but yes it does go under water from time to time: like in 1999, 2010, 2012. And when that happens Queensland is getting rather too wet. And Gympie does too, for incredibly part of the CBD is below major flood levels. This flooding issue in Gympie has a long history, going back to the early goldrush days in 1870.
Is Gympie recovering from the last flood Ian? Greetings Berend
Yes it has, Berend. Most people are well adjusted to the flooding patterns, though damage to roads and bridges and fences is always costly follow-up expenditure.
