I thought you may be pleased! I saw it yesterday and just about flipped! What a beauty. I had to sneak up in someone's yard to grab this quick shot. It was on a huge farm with fun things a plenty! I'm so happy that it attracted your attention. It's always a pleasure to see you.

How about that barn? Did you get by there today?

It is gorgeous. We have one like it at our local museum. It was originally a Texaco pump, so naturally, it's red.

We did an exhibit I helped install a few years ago, called simply "Red" and this was one of the many things we had to move into the gallery and set up. I did a wall of red car and motorcycle pictures, framed around a stop sign and a picture of GTOMATO, which was my 500 HP 1966 Pontiac GTO (gues what color IT was?)

Didn't go to Shingletown today - I had CPR training. I'm planning to be out around 7:30 tomorrow morning.

Well, this one was straight BROWN. Not even a hint of red was left. I considered leaving it natural, ( in color) but somehow I thought it spoke louder in Black and White. What do you think?

I wonder if this was a texaco pump as well? It's still got all of the numbers on the inside of the glass thing and all. So neat!

Your exhibit sounded wonderful. Do you have any pictures of it? It sounds like it was rather large. I bet it was quite impressive. RED packs a powerful punch, as do your photos!

I'm sorry that you didn't get to go to Shingletown today, but that just gives us more to look forward to tomorrow! I'll be waiting....

I like it in BW, Maria Alicia. Have you considered sepia tone, just for fun?

I do have pictures of RED. Think anyone besides us would be interested? Do we care what anyone else thinks? Should I upload just for you and me? How many more questions do you think I can ask before you stop reading this post? Have you stopped reading yet?

Look HERE for the latest update on the Inwood barn.

Paul, I'm glad that you like it in Black and White I did too. I did try it in sepia, but it wasn't as good as the straight black and white with just a slight boost.

You DO have pictures of RED? Awesome! Let's see 'em! Yes! Yes! We do not care if others are interested nor what they think. No, we do not care at all. I can't wait to see them. Yes, Please upload right away. I'm going out for a while, but I shall return later on tonight. I will check to see if there is any RED to be had.

Incidentally, I would never stop reading your posts. They are way too interesting and fun to pass up even a morsel.

I want to see RED!

Hi MaryAlice, I love these old pumps you have been focusing (no pun intended) on. They were almost an artform. I can remember similar from my childhood but apart from a museum, I don't recall having seen one in years.

I will make it my mission to find one here in Ireland!!

Sean.

Another bit of well-done nostalgia, MaryAlice, looking fine in B&W.

By the way, when you check my collection, you'll see that I felt well enough today to go out long enough to shoot one abandoned barn that I'd spotted a week ago. I hadn't realized until then it was falling apart the way it is.

Another great shot of a petrol pump. Aren't old farms the best. I'm still to pluck up the courage to ask the owners when I see some old machinery on their land, if I can have a look and take some shot's. I think I'll have to come up with something more diplomatic than "You have a whole heap of junk on your land, can I take some shot's?" LOL

MaryAlice, on March 2, 2008, said:

Palmina: I really don't think that people mind if you photograph their junk too much. I usually don't ask though. I just sneak in there real quick and take the shot. If I get caught, I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I'll come up with something to say. When I was photographing an old mill the other day, no one was home at first. Then when I was deep into the heart of the shoot, some people pulled into the driveway of the home where I had parked. They let out about five dogs, I suppose to try to scare me away, but I befriended them all. Dogs are what I do best, so that didn't work. I decided that I wasn't hurting a thing, and that they could just get over the attitude. I finished what I wanted to do, told all the pups goodbye, and was on my way. They never said anything to me, but I could see them watching me from inside. Funny! People are strange. I try not to let them bother me too much though. It's all in good fun and so many of these unnoticed things NEED to be photographed! It's up to us to get it done, so go ahead and photograph the neat old machinery that you've been eyeing. I'm waiting to see it.

Thanks so much for stopping by to see the pump!

Happy Sunday, MaryAlice

Hear, hear!

Get the shot, then worry about the consequences (Unless they release lions and tigers and bears, oh my). THEN it's time to head for the hills!

I'm rather excited about your new mission to find an old gas pump over there in Ireland. I am going to be eagerly awaiting your discovery.

Thanks for your visit. It's always a pleasure.

Have a wonderful Monday, MaryAlice

Marilyn,

Thank you so much for visiting tonight. Yes, I seem to keep running up on gas pumps somehow. They pop up when you least expect them, and I just couldn't pass this one up. It just seemed to be especially loaded with character.

I'm coming right over now to see your new abandoned barn. I can't Wait!
