Tahquitz Peak Lookout

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Tahquitz Peak Lookout has served as a wildfire lookout for over 70 years, longer than any other active lookout in California. Since its construction the structure became part of the San Jacinto Wilderness, prohibiting all motorized or mechanical vehicles or equipment. The lookout is staffed by volunteers who must hike 4.5 miles (7.2 km) while climbing 2250 feet (686 m) in the process. The lookout is open to the public when staffed and people frequently hike here all year long.
