Raining on the Range.

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The Stirling Range, around 25 km away from the photographer's location, are among Western Austalia's highest mountains..which doesn't say much for the others, given that Bluff Knoll, the highest point in the Stirlings, at 1095 mtrs above sea-level, was once thought to be the highest peak in West Australia. Mt Meharry in the Pilbara district of W.A.'s north is slightly higher. Australia is an very ancient weathered land.

Very nice. I always like a field of gold with dark storm clouds overhead. Great shot.

Thanks for that Spencer. This was taken on one of our 'lightning raid' Sunday drives, 600km round trip. Distances are huge in W.A.

Hi Marion. Thank you kindly! Us too, but we are going to have to do a bit of fitness training. The ways up all look a bit challenging. We are out of condition. Shameful really..Regards, Jock.

Thank you Caroline. I reckon you might have seen this sight before in your travels. One of the best areas for scenery in the southern half..it's still green down there!

Hello Jock. I have indeed seen this sight a fair few times, and the wonderful thing is, it never fails to grab me, each time I see it again. It is so majestic in its own way, so very Ours if you know what I mean, in a West Aussie sense :)

BOGDAN de Varsovie on November 11, 2012

Best regards.

Pretty special this area. I start looking for the Stirlings as soon as I leave Kojonup. Seems so strange to see that sight from so far away. Nothing like it anywhere else in W.A.
