The Caoling Historic Trail cuts across Sandiaojiao, starting at Yuanwangkeng, just inland from Fulung, and ending at Dali on the coast. It is the only remaining section (rebuilt by the Tourism Bureau) of the old Qing dynasty trail that was constructed 130 years ago to provide the only land link down the Northeast Coast from Danshui to Yilan.

Each autumn, a special Festival for the unique views of Miscanthus blossom will be hold in the Caoling Historic Trail. At the festival, in addition to appreciating the annual drift-wood crafts display, participants will be able to collect stamps for souvenirs at Yuanwangkeng Water Park and the Forestry Station, pray for happiness at mountainous cross sections. drink free ginger tea offered by locals, make rubbings from stone inscriptions, join toy-making workshops or go for a special photography exhibition related to the festival theme.
