Great Sandy Strait and Fraser Island

Fraser Island is a remarkable sand mass island that deservedly is listed on UNESCO World Heritage List as a wilderness ecosystem. It is the world's largest sand island. This view of the western side of the island includes the coast from South White Cliffs and Yankee Jack Creek to Figtree Creek. The emerald waterway is Great Sandy Strait that pulses to the tidal runs between Tin Can Bay in the south and Hervey Bay in the north.

The group of 4 islands in the strait is the Moonboom Islands. The mainland coast in the background includes Boonooroo Point with the estuary of Tuan Creek beyond the point.

These maritime waterways channels and estuaries are one of the best fishing environments, with mud crabs abundant in the tidal mangrove communities of the Mary River estuary.

Dolphins and whales frequent these waters.
