Because of the remote location I thought maybe a small holding, subsistance farm. The large farms that provided accomodation for the agricultural workers that I have seen tended to have them living by the farm itself. Maybe a tied shepherd's house (if such a thing existed)? A shepherd is the only agricultural worker I can think of that may need to live remote from the farmer/land owner.
