Is this the one where only men are allowed?

Yes Brian, this is the monastery where females of all animal species are not supposed to be allowed. However, I noticed, and took a picture nearby of a chicken with a flock of chicks.

This is the one I saw on Globe Trekker than.

Animals too? That's very interesting.

I wonder if there any female monasteries.

Typically, the monasteries in Ethiopia prohibit women and perhaps female animals. (I visited some of the ones on the islands in Lake Tana where women were prohibited.) I think there are places for women (nunneries) in Ethiopia too, which probably prohibit men. But the interesting thing about Debre Damos is that the visitors (men) have to climb a 20 meter rope.
