8 km from Kalabaka, on the left bank of Peneus river, is the historic community of Sarakina, inhabited today by 300 residents. Sarakina is known for its famous stone bridge (14th or 15th century). Near the bridge took place the a battle with the Turks in 1878 (just before the reunion of all Thessaly with Greece according to the Treaty of San Stefano in Istanbul and the Treaty of Berlin in 1878).

From this area you can have beautiful view to Meteora, but the road for cars ends just before the bridge. So the bridge is accessible only by foot.
