Yabba Falls: The view from above looking down on Bottom Pool, Super Rocks and the beginning of Owen Cascades

Super Rocks, Yabba Falls

Perched on the cliff top just below the Gate of Heaven, one looks down from about 60M above to the end of Bottom Pool as it spills out onto the top of Owen Cascades. But here is the large rock pile, Super Rocks, where the undercut rock face has collapsed burying the stream. Some of the larger Super Rocks are estimated at more than 1300 tonnes.

By the way, super rocks they maybe, but they were named after Super MacDonald, an aboriginal man who lived almost his whole life on Yabba Station as a faithful servant of the C. H. MacDonald family. "Super MacDonald", as he was called, was born in Cooktown, North Queensland, and as a 6 year year old child went to live with and in the care of the MacDonald family, first at "Dotswood Station" near Charters Towers, and later at "Yabba Station". Yabba homestead is sited only 800M from this part of the Baiyambora Gorge.

Great shot Ian. Greetings Berend

I have enjoyed documenting each section of the Yabba Falls, Berend. All my life the Falls were a significant item in my family's stories, but it took me 60 years to be able to create the opportunity to descend into the gorge, as well as to be able to photograph them from the air.

Thanks for 'coming' on the journey with me.

Ian
