This is a distant view of the SW Poljica with Podstrana, the area south of Split to Omiš. The ridge Perun (Vedic Varuna?,
Norse Thor) is named after the supreme Old Slavic namesake god, who is the Lord of Thunder & Lightning.
Other name for this range is Poljička planina (Poljica Mountain). Anyway, Podstrana has 9 km of
beautiful, beaches, numerous apartments and bedrooms for tourists, fine restaurants, pubs, cafes ..
Oh, yes. In 1960, a Russian scientist M.P. Alekseyev stated thesis that Thomas Moore wrote his
Utopia in 1516, inspired just by Poljica ancient customs which were the author's model for righteous and
free society. Poljica were autonomous peasant community Poljička Knežia, also known as Poljička Republika,
lasted from the 13th to the 19th century. Earliest Poljica Satute is written in Croatian Cyrillic script
(the 13th century). And one more thing. In Podstrana were found remains of an ancient sarcophagus.
It belongs to a prominent Roman military veteran, centurion Lucius Artorius Castus, better known as the
legendary King Arthur. I'll write a little bit about it, but for some other occasion, ie photo.
