Hi Roar! Great photo. (As far as other your evening Trondheim photos).

Maybe it's a great idea to have a home just over the channel. But don't they have it too cold during the winter?

Hi Ihor! Thank you! I think it's OK to live there because it's so close to the fjord. The high tide is actually reaching about a km upstream of this point. Further upstream the river channel is very cold in the winter. Normally the winters in Trondheim are mild, but temperatures down to - 15C occurs a few times every winter. So far we have had one long such period. I think the temperature was about -12C when I did this shot. Some frost smoke on the river disappeared because of the long exposure time.

Ok, I see. So, the fjord stays unfrozen during the winter here?

Till now, we have a warmer winter. It was no lower than -7..-10 on some nights, and in the daytime it's warmer. But we had a lot of snow the last days.

I the past, many smaller fjords and side fjords were frozen. Those was the fjords which had an river outlet. The fresh water helped the fjords to freeze. Most of the lager rivers in Norway have been regulated with dams or something nowadays and there is usually not enough fresh water in the fjords to make them freeze, not even in the coldest days. But sometimes some bays in the fjords are freezing. The river channel in this photo stays open because of the constant movement of the water and some mixing with salt water during high tide.

Great shot the ROAR, lovely soft look with 15 sec exposure, well done! YSL and all the best in 2013 from Lady GooGoo La La in Land of Smiles :~)

Thanks a lot Lady GooGoo La La!! I'm glad you like this one, and a YSL makes me feel honored :). It was made from 7 different exposure, all being 15 seconds long. I think the temperature were around -12C and there was some frost smoke on the river which is not visible in the photo. BTW, Roar is my name ;) So I'm not "the" roar.

Have a happy new photo year!
