South Africa's National Flower : The King Protea

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

A flowering king sugar bush proudly displaying South Africa's national flower in its natural and original environment. This beautiful wild yellow king protea flower was spotted during a hike on top of the Muizenberg Mountains, with a backdrop view of two of False Bays' coastal towns: Fish Hoek and Simons Town. FYI: at least one third of all protea species are listed as endangered, as they live in a fragile environment, and are commonly cultivated in greenhouses.
