Milano: Monument to Francesco Hayez / Monumento a Francesco Hayez

Francesco Hayez (Venice, February 10, 1791 - Milan, December 21, 1882) was an Italian painter, the greatest exponent of "historical romance", particularly noted for the work of "Kiss".

Many of his works are "encrypted", ie hides a message (certainly political). For example, in Kiss, represented in medieval times, we sense the true meaning of the work related to his time, with a patriot who is about to go to war against the Austrians.

Of course in those days it was forbidden freely represent scenes of this kind, and that's exactly what Hayez decided to "disguise" or "encrypt" his paintings, transposing them in the past.

The Kiss, has become in fact the "manifesto" of Italian Romanticism.
