Antoni Gaudi (full name: Antoni Gaudí i Cornet, Reus 25 June 1852 - Barcelona, 10 June 1926) was an important Catalan Art Nouveau architect.

Studied and worked in Barcelona where are the most important works, which stand out for their design.

Gaudí was professionally and spiritually educated in the cosmopolitan environment of Barcelona. Studied the artistic movements of the past, Islamic and Gothic architecture which even at that time revived. He accepted the influence of Viollet-le-Duc, John Ruskin and Richard Wagner and through his work he wanted to renew the local architecture elaborating new forms of expression.

One of the most important works is the Guell Palace (1886 - 1888). The design of the building was entrusted to Gaudí by Don Eusebi Güell i Bacigalupi, a prominent figure in the economic, political and social life of the city and a strong influence in politics.

He constructed also Casa Vicens (1878–1880), Col-legi de les Teresianes (1888-1890), Cripta de la Colònia Guell (1898-1916), Casa Calvet (1899–1904), Casa Batlló (1905–1907), Casa Mila (La Pedrera) (1905-1907), Parc Guell (1900-1914).

The last and one of the most significant projects is Sagrada Familia (1884 - 1926), church, which remained unfinished due to the death of the architect. The construction continues to this day, financed by the homonymous foundation.

The Gaudí's works give special character to Barcelona and an attraction for visitors and scholars. Characteristic is one of the techniques of Gaudi who used pieces of ceramic tiles to decorate and paint some of his works. Today many of the decorative souvenirs sold to Barcelona using this technique.
