BRUJILLO (Haematopus ater) Orden: Charadriiformes - Familia: Haematopodidae Also known as black oystercatcher, this bird of 48 cm has dark plumage, a long, flattened red beak and legs whitish. It inhabits the rocky marine shores, where their food is composed mainly of molluscs, crustaceans and small shellfish, but also visits to get muymuyes sandy beaches. Usually nest in rocky areas near the sea, incubating three eggs per clutch. The natural habitat of Paita Brujillo begins and ends at Cape Horn. Their meat and eggs make a victim of the hunters, so this species is protected by the state.
