Williamsburg Brooklyn - View of Its Namesake Bridge

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

I traveled to Brooklyn yesterday to meet my son who was working there. Early by about an hour I traveled to the streets of "MY Brooklyn" to see, finally how they fared in the great storm, Sandy. I'm glad to say whatever damage was suffered was not permanent. I then decided to drive across Brooklyn (from Sheepshead Bay) to Williamsburg. As I turned off of Bedford Avenue onto South 6th Street I was struck by this great view of the Williamsburg Bridge which I've covered before from the Manhattan side, but never, apparently from this dramatic vantagepoint.

A very nice sight of the bridge, Hank. I see you go back to your Brooklyn and find the best images. Greetings from Italy and best wishes for the 2013. Cheers, Dany

Hi Hank: I like this picture but can't really say why. It gives me a sense of being connected to this neighborhood even though I've never been there (I don't think). Happy new year! dave

Happy New Year Dany and Dave. I think I understand your feeling, Dave. When I turned the corner from Bedford Avenue onto S. 6th Street I was hit with this view. I think it's the old buildings and the classic, familiar lower East Side bridge that remind all of us of our American roots. Who among our grandparents didn't land there?

Thanks for your comments Dany. It's always good to be back on my native streets. Best regards, Hank

...that one is the bridge we still have to walk. It was planned in 2011 to do that three bridges walk from Williams side. But one easily makes errors about the distances that are to walk.

Great to read that not that much damage is left from Sandy. Especially that "Randazzos" would be a great loss if getting permanently damanged.

A very nice new new year for Dany and you Hank...

cheers, michael
