"Wad'ya want ?"

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

This was part of a twenty strong herd which had been watching me set up my camera and tripod for ages! My quest was to film a wide panorama..Eventually, most of the herd mooooved through a gap in the fence leaving this trio to stare me out. I made friends with them and decided to make them the subject of my interest..and this is the result..

It appears that Holstein/Friesian cattle are one and the same..I'm no expert but if you click on the link you can decide for yourselves!

~Marlene~~~~~I had never considered that these affectionate creatures could be loved Marlene, not until I witnessed the heart-breaking scenes following a major outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease in the early part of this century..Many breeders, stock farmers and herdsmen were visibly shaken to tears when whole herds were taken for slaughter and cremation..A life's time of work, dedication and investment was catastrophically ruined in a matter of hours..It was then that I realised just how much these charming and gentle creatures meant to them..Only now, some ten years on, are the fields and farms of Britain returning to somewhere near normal..

ButsYV~~~~~Good to see you _Yuri :) I'm most grateful for your nice compliment :)

Oxymandias~~~I'm flattered by your generous compliment, thanks for the utube link :))

stacy metcalf~~~They were so inquisitive Stacey and intent on getting in on the act..I was intent on capturing a big coastal panorama somewhere on the distant horizon, the cushy cows won! NO CONTEST! I'm glad to be back :))

Kind regards to you all

Nice picture Jim. I like the rays of light trying to beak through! Reading your reply to Marlene...I know many farmers and I there isn't one that doesn't know their herd individually and their different personalities!

All the best for 2013, Rosa.

Beautiful picture, Jim. Excellent composition. These look like the cows in the "Eat mor chikin" commercial. Do you have the Chick-fil-a chain of restaurants in the UK?

Geezer Vz~~~~"chick-fil-a" restaurant chains Guy :) We've never heard of em! As far as I am aware, the only national food outlet of this type in the UK is KFC..

Wil en Ed~~~~Ed! that's the obvious answer, why didn't I think of that :)

-ila-~~~~~I've been thinking about posting this photo for months Ila, now I'm glad that I did!

psonja~~~They are cuddly aren't they Sonja :))

alear~~~~I once saw a herd of cows eat a caravan Ale!, now that's very curious :))

Christos Theodorou~~~~~This is the closest that I will ever get to bovines Christos, anything this big scares the heck out of me..I'd rather go shark fishing!

Steve Drury~~~Hello Steve :)) I could have guaranteed that you would be the first to write one of the worst moocow jokes ever! :))) Is it still Panto time? Stand by for an outbreak!!!!!

cjlin~~~Greetings dear Cjlin, always good to see you..I'm floored by the YSL, thank you so much :))

Sehnwirmal~~~I'm delighted to join the Cows of the World group..I had no idea that one existed :))) Cows are very essential creatures and deserve recognition..even if I do wear leather shoes!

Gabor Retei~~~It's a race against time Gabe, if I ever get to the bottom of my un-answered mail pile I will be able to visit the galleries!

Many thanks for all your good humoured comments guys, it is such fun reading them..Keep up the good work
