Alcacer do Sal

Alcacer do Sal was founded over 3000 years ago by the Phoenicians, being famous for its salt pans since Roman times. Opposite the medieval castle built during Arab's occupation, find flooded fields for rice cultivation, introduced here from 1760. They are part of the Natural Reserve of Sado, being a major feeding areas for herons and storks in Europe.


Alcacer do Sal foi fundada há mais de 3000 anos pelos Fenícios, sendo célebre pelas salinas desde o tempo dos romanos. Frente ao castelo construído pelos árabes, vêm-se campos para a cultura de arroz, aqui introduzida em 1760. Fazem parte da Reserva Natural do Sado, uma das maiores áreas de alimentação para cegonhas e garças na Europa.
