Thessaloniki, The White Tower

The White Tower of Thessaloniki is one othoman τower, fortification of the 15th century (probably built between 1450-1470). Today it is considered the main monument of Thessaloniki and is what has been saved from the demolished Othoman fortification of Thessaloniki. The current form of the tower replaced an old Byzantine fortification which was built in the 12th century, in order to be used as lodging for the Guard of Janissaries and as a prison death row. Now serves as a museum and is one of the most famous buildings symbolic cities in Greece. It has 6 floors, 34 feet tall and 70 feet around.
