What does that adjective mean "Waterloo ...". Is it in connection with Waterloo battle? Misi
Welcome Misi, I am not sure what the connection to 'The Battle of Waterloo' is, but I am re-searching the history of these old cottages and will let you know soon.
~Mooie foto..jimmyboy,,als deze rivier door veel regen erg stijgt zullen de bewoners in die mooie woningen soms wel natte voeten krijgenniet???!!!
Lijkt me een rivier om lekker pootje te baden,of niet??
Hello Freddy, Im sorry for being too slow here. Thankyou so much for dropping in. Yes you are correct Fred. The ground floor of these homes are elevated 2metres, since flooding has wet their feet.(soms wel natte voetten krijgerniet)
I swim this river as a young man. Very good.
Very Picturesque. We have walked to and around Ruswarp several times, I like the little cafe there. So peaceful.
Thankyou so much Paula. I know what you mean, Ruswarp is a tranquil place in the valley of the river Esk. It is one of my favourite local villages and a childhood adventure playground. The best Butcher and Pie Shop can be found at the bottom of Ruswarp Bank.
Jim, Hello, I am glad you like my work, I was just getting started a photography enthusiasts, there are many inadequacies to a lot of efforts ah! Your work is also very good, very good feeling to me, I am glad to know you. My Chinese nickname is RainIce(冷雨), my name is Dinghai Yong。 I do not have English names, as long as you like can not call me, ah, Mike, David, or you miss a good friend's name。
Greetings and a big welcome RainIce.(thats a great nickname) Please excuse my very late response to your mail.
I enjoy photography especially the photoshop programme. I am able to improve my bad shots to an acceptable level using this feature.
I am looking forward to visiting your gallery soon. Many thanks for your visit and nice comments.
A wonderful photo!
Jim, I have to agree with you that Jackson's butchers supplies some of the best pork pies in the known universe.
Greetings and welcome Ed, For you to know the name of the shop puts you very local to me.
I echo your feelings re the pork pies, the Apple and Pork is scrummy.
Thanks for dropping in and the great comments.
Hello Jim, I have looked at this before and find it very appealing - I always liked the water and streams but not sure I'd want to be that close. Nice light but the sky looks a little odd in as much as it is blue behind the trees and the remainder is white? Anyway a nice scene nicely captured.
Greetings john, the house is elevated several feet so that it only gets wet soles when the river floods, as it does quite frequently! It would not be my choice either ;>) but oh what a wonderful view.
There are a number of low lying fields just to the North East of these cottages that have become the domain of the local seal family. They can often be seen happily sun bathing like tourists on the beach and present an odd sight when cattle congregate there.
The river Esk is the finest salmon river in Yorkshire so you can imagine that dinner is easy pickings. The seals look very healthy with their thick blubbery coats.
I shall make an effort to film these one day john
The white sky is simply a product of my inept camera work. Iv'e moved on a little since then, yet I still drop the occasional clanger!!
Thanks for dropping in ;>)
hi Jim!:) if You like fishing I invite You to visit Low Volga:) there beautiful fishing!:)
Hi! roma_volzskij...I must check it out...you have photos in your gallery?
Jim welcome to look at my tag Low Volga:)
heyy! thought i just add in there about the cottage. its called waterloo cottage because it was built for when the solidiers came back from the battle of waterloo obviously it looked alot different back then as its been restored because of the river and that.
Many thanks for your interesting reply Fred ;>)
I have just come across this one Jim ~ what a lovely scene. Lovely meandering river on the map. Like....;~))
Lovely photo jim :-)
♦Rosa♦~~~Strangely, there are very few true rivers that drain into the North sea along the North Yorkshire coast! This river meanders through some beautiful Yorkshire dales and terminates somewhere in the Cleveland hills, some twenty odd miles away..For much of it's length, it provides wealthy sports fishermen the opportunity for catching big salmon and sea-trout. This is Yorkshire's only salmon river so you can imagine how popular a venue this is!
Denise Gregory~~~As a young man, I spent many long hours fishing illegally for salmon and considered myself to be reasonably successful, never having got caught for my sins! I saw some massive fish taken from this river, only a few hundred yards downstream from Waterloo Cottages!
The controls are so strict today and the penalties could mean having all your gear, including your car, confiscated if one is caught fishing illegally! I'm a good boy now!
Thanks to you both for stopping by!
