The name "The Red Apple" is chosen and related to the fact that Rotterdam is The Big Apple (New York) in the Netherlands. Then there is the relationship with the history of Wijnhaveneiland where The Red Apple is realized. On the quay of the Wijnhaven formerly the barges moored with apples. At the point where the Scheepmakershaven and Wijnhaven connect together was from 1889 an apple-market located. Finally, the building The Red Apple is red :)).
