At the tip of the Wijnhaveneiland in the center of Rotterdam is the building The Red Apple.
Top 10 high-rise Rotterdam since March 2009, the 127 meters high building is at fourth place in the top 10 tallest buildings in Rotterdam.
The name "The Red Apple" is chosen and related to the fact that Rotterdam is The Big Apple (New York) in the Netherlands. Then there is the relationship with the history of Wijnhaveneiland where The Red Apple is realized. On the quay of the Wijnhaven formerly the barges moored with apples. At the point where the Scheepmakershaven and Wijnhaven connect together was from 1889 an apple-market located. Finally, the building The Red Apple is red :)).
Architect of The Red Apple: Rotterdam office KCAP Kees Christiaanse . He was also charged with the master of the Wijnhaveneiland.
In The Red Apple 141 homes are realized , 108 appartements for buy and 33 apartments for rent. Of the owner-occupied homes there are 72 in the tower and 36 in the 'kopblock' housed. Also The Red Apple contains 3,900 m2 of office space and 1,600 m2 of retail space
