I find compositions with curved lead in lines like this irresistable - the eye seems to lead the mind on an imaginary journey through the image, and onto scenes unknown. A clear winter's day often casts a very atmospheric spell over the landscape, in this case aided by a few attractive clouds.
Tried a few crops both with and without the telephone pole, but found most of these alternatives to look a bit "flat" and empty, and the composition unbalanced for my tastes. Settled for putting it fairly close to the right hand edge of the image - a nice tree or bush would have been better, but wasn't available. To my mind, this has resulted in a slightly surreal feel to this image, the shape and position of both the puddle of water and the telephone pole giving this slightly unsettling feel, to me at least.
