It's in dependence on the saying "the King has left the building", which is a phrase that was often used by public address announcers following Elvis Presley concerts to disperse audiences who lingered in hopes of an encore. It has since become a popular culture catchphrase and punchline.
Al Dvorin, a spokesman who traveled with Elvis during his entire career, made this saying popular because his voice was heard on many recordings of Presley's performances.
