Such a variable kind of forest in a small area Ian. LIKE! Greetings Berend
You are right, Berend. The variable aspects, geology, and altitudes have created a mosaic of forest types in the area, and for a long time fire has largely been excluded from the area because of forest management.
The wet sclerophyll forests dominate but there are areas of rainforest, including patches of fern forest and vine forest, as well as dry sclerophyll forests especially on north facing ridges where soils are thin and sun incidence is high.
You might not notice this, but through this window in the forest I noticed a mature bunya pine growing down there, emerging above the forest canopy. It is a special tree around here.
I think I noticed it in the middle of the picture Ian. Greetings Berend
Indeed you have, Berend.
Is it really a 'pine' Ian? Species? Nice shot!
My sons took me here for a drive. When I go out with them I never know where we might end up. I like the forests.
