Hello h ! I have an Aeronautical Chart of Ireland, and when you see all the dotted lines labeled as 'track of old railway', it's very annoying to think of all the hundreds of miles of track that was lifted. The coverage throughout Ulster and around West Cork! And now, they're seeing the error of their way and trying to reestablish the Navan line? The furtherest reaches of Kerry and Galway, as far as Clifden and remotest Donegal could, at one time could all be reached by train! Now...? We've got the M50! Alan.
Thanks for that, It is indeed a pity we lost a lot of our rail system in the 50's & 60's, but the truth is we couldn't afford to keep or maintain the system. The real shame was the stormont anti rail policy in the north in the 60's which left many parts of the north & north west denuded of rail services due to the axing of cross border lines & the promises of motorways that were never built.
