The importance of bat protection cannot be stressed enough. Their benefit to mankind is invaluable. Just as songbirds provide insect control during daytime, so do those night-flying mammals from sunset to dawn. Mosquitos, leafhoppers, many kinds of moths, grasshoppers, beetles, aphids and an unimaginable number of crop-damaging insects are night for night eliminated by the tons. But bats (certain species of them) also help by pollinating important food crops like bananas, dates, cashews, peaches, pigeon peas, avocados, century plants (important for tequila!) and many more! Finally they are a tremendous help in replanting those plants as they dispers the seeds of those fruits with their droppings. A.T.
