This view to the south also shows the small wetland from the preceding photo. It is about 50 feet (15m.) square with a very small pond almost hidden in the reeds and cattails in the center. Such areas are protected by both federal and state law. Owners cannot develop such property unless a substitute is provided; thus, it is increasingly common to see a duck pond in the parking lot of a "big box" retailer or in front a strip mall.
