Ani (Անի) - a "ghost town" near the border with Armenia.
In 962 Bagratyd dynasty moved from Kars to Ani and make it the capital of Armenia. The heyday of the reign of Gagik I, at the beginning of the eleventh century and the city had a population of about 100 thousand inhabitants. In August 1064 the city was sacked by the Turks Alp Arslan. In 1319 an earthquake destroyed it. In both cases, it was rebuilt.
Ani was the greatest of all Armenian cities and was known as the city of a thousand and one church (in 1915 you could see the remains of 43 churches) later their number gradually decreased.
Harsh climate and less durable building material, is one of the reasons for the rapid destruction of this buildings.

W 962 roku dynastia Bagratydów przeniosła się z Karsu do Ani i stało się ono stolicą Państwa Ormiańskiego. Okres świetności to czasy panowania Gagika I, na początku XI wieku a miasto liczyło około 100 tys mieszkańców. W sierpniu 1064 roku miasto zostało złupione przez Turków Alp Arslana. W 1319 zniszczyło je trzęsienie ziemi. W obu przypadkach zostało odbudowane.
Ani było najwspanialszym ze wszystkich ormiańskich miast i zwane było miastem tysiąca i jednego kościoła (w 1915 można było zobaczyć pozostałości 43 kościołów) potem ich liczba sukcesywnie malała.
Surowy klimat i mało trwały materiał budowlany, są jednym z powodów szybkiej destrukcji tych budowli.
