Appreciating the plum blossom during the winter season has become a grand tour event. The plum blossom is in full bloom every year from December till January and February of the following year. Plum blossoms can be admired in many areas across the island. Among these places, Fenggui-Dou is the most famous. Plum Park has an area of up to 500 hectares, and the average life span of a tree can reach 10 to 30 years and even 60 years for older plum trees.

December till February of the following year is the most suitable time to appreciate the plum blossom in Taiwan, and the period is longer for ornamental plum trees, whereas the fruiting period for plum trees is only approximately one month. The major production period for plums is from March till May, which is the best time to visit Plum Village and experience the joy of plum picking and tasting.

Plum trees originated in mainland China. The seeds of the plum tree were bought over to Taiwan at the end of Ming Dynasty and planted in the hot and humid environment, which was originally not suited for the growth of plum trees. Plum trees usually grow at altitudes of 400 to 1,200 meters. The majority of plum trees are distributed along the both sides of the central mountain range in the central part of Taiwan.
