a tid-git of info
ELWOOD ADAMS HARDWARE 156 Main St. Worcester, MA. 01608 (508)752-1919 In 1782 in the north end of Worcester Massachusetts stood a hardware store owned by Daniel Waldo. Goods such as saddles, oil lamps, shovels and hand tools were bought, sold and traded. Forty years or so later a gentleman named Henry Miller purchased the store from Daniel Waldo and in 1869 Miller's young apprentice Elwood Adams bought the store and changed it's name. The store continued in operation under ownership of Elwood Adams's son Robert Adams till 1947 .The store changed hands a few times until two young enthusiastic Frenchmen decided to take a go at running the business. Maurice Champagne and Nelson Cloutier kept the name Elwood Adams and opened in1958 to serve the Worcester Community. Today Elwood Adams is still owned and operated by the Cloutier family. Sons Paul, James and daughter Marie are committed to running the "Oldest Hardware Store in the USA". With many updates including state of the art billing and inventory control. Elwood Adams is serving area businesses, contractors, building maintenance, and city residence. With the reputation of having the "Hard to Find Items" Elwood Adams has truly one of the most experienced staff compiled in any retail operation. With one on one service it's not hard to see why for over 223 years elwood adams is alive and well in the new millennium.
So, indeed an interesting place to buy things. Looks nice. ++++ Best Good Friday-greetings from Wiesbaden, Germany
