My first ever "commission". 1976
This is so totally cool! I'm very impressed! Thank you for sharing this with me. No wonder you were so attracted to the photo.
I used to be a glass decorator (another lost art) and had to learn how to draw up the lettering to etch, sandblast, paint or gild on to the glass (in reverse!). My brother-in-law was opening a shop and asked me if I could do a sign for him.
Doing a sign in-situ meant a steep learning curve and I found myself discovering the "tricks of the trade" as I went along with the job.
The shop was in an arcade (now demolished) and I was approached by other shopkeepers when they saw me at work. My next commission was the shop next door and then the one next to that.
Great you uploaded this one :) I find your story really interesting: do you still keep doing this kind of job?? (of course you don´t have to answer ;) )
Unfortunately, Crystal, I no longer do this. I am now a bus driver!
cool! look very professional and seem to be good at your job. nice photo!
Thanks for visiting Malvinder. It is 30 years since I did this type of work.
