East Street & the Castle

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The village is one of the most beautiful in England, fashioned out of Purbeck Stone and nestling under the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle. The village is set out around a medieval common “the Halves” and is bounded by Corfe Common and the Purbeck Hills. The ruined Castle is one of the most loved in England and offers spectacular views. The National Trust has a yearlong programme of events from outdoor plays to medieval encampments and battles with Vikings.

The castle must of appeared in a movie at some time. It is the thing of legends, I had know idea it existed. The pic shows the dominance of the sighting of it well. Great stuff.

This castle was started by "William the Conqueror",but not complete by him, will have to look at the history again

Thanks. KC

Excellent composition Gordon to capture the traditional village nestled below the castle ruins. The additional info is a nice bonus.

Hmmm, it's wonderful and very picturesque place. It looks a little mysterious too.

Have a nice day, Roman

Thanks Roman

It is a bit mysterious as it was started by William The Conqueror in 1067...........but never finished by him, others completed it eventually, till it was fought over and fell into disrepair.........

Have a good weekend. Gordon
