January 6, 2013: Sunday
In typical fashion of our altered climate, winter has once again retreated. Today the temperature is once again back up in the 50's, sunny and calm winds. In my vernacular, too nice not too be on the river. The gift of the midatlantic region is that there are tons and tons of place to go paddle and explore the wonders of creation, the intricacies of nature, and the gift that our planet is.
I went to piscataway park, and paddled across the Potomac up hunter creek in the Virginia side. Then in front of Mt. Vernon and back, about a 10 mile paddle. The trip ended up being a great success, as a wind enhanced king tide allowed me to go far deeper into hunter creek that i had though possible. The air was clean, the sky blue and only a few clouds grazed the sky.
REMEMBER, rivers, lakes and the sea are everyone's responsibilities. Care for them, care for your watershed, and dont let short sighted economic interest ruin them for you and your descendants. Humanity has lived with out electricity and industry for many thousands of years, but it has never lived with out fresh water.
