The statue is now in Estonian History museum back yard (in Maarjamäe castle) waiting to be placed to planned monument park.
Probably the last statue of Lenin left in Estonia. It stood in the junkyard for many years, looking over the cast-offs of Capitalism. It was sold or melted down last year.
Excellent shot - I love the juxtaposition of Vladimir Ilyich somehow maintaining his dignity as the detritus of bourgeois capitalist consumerism rises inexorably up to his waist.
If I'd taken this shot I'd be entering it for every travel photo competition I could find.
This definitely gets a Red star, sorry - Yellow star ;-)
Thanks! I always loved this shot myself, but wasn't sure if it would generate the same feeling in others. I think it's extremely poignant, and may just take your advice. :)
Go for it JW - the phrase "scrapheap of history" springs readily to mind. I think it's a potential winner.
Sounds good! :)
Klasse Bild! Schöne Grüsse aus Mannheim
"...this is the end my only friend..." ;-)

Para reflexionar un ratito
I'm a Master student in Estonian Academy of Arts and doing a research of old soviet monuments. I would like to know when and where did you make this photo (what I gather, the place is in Tartu, Tähe St 108?). The statue itself is now in Estonian History museum back yard (in Maarjamäe castle) waiting to be placed to planned monument park.
Also, could I use this photo (naming the author) in my study?
The photo was taken in early June of 2005. I have other photos of the statue also. If you have an e-mail address, post it and then I will delete it, and send you the other photos.
Trovo che sia scandaloso!
