What a wonderful series you are presenting us from the swamps of Louisiana, Marilyn! Looks like a very interesting place for people who love nature! LIKE! Greetings, Anne

Many thanks, Anne. When I told a friend that we'd spent a day on our trip visiting a swamp (first by road and boardwalk, then by boat), she wondered why. But I know you understand! We were fortunate to have good weather; the next day it poured rain!

I imagine you wonder whether we saw any wildlife. It was too cold for alligators to show themselves, but besides many birds, we saw turtles, a cluster of snakes (sunning themselves), and nutria (a South American rodent that has become a real nuisance in this area). However I decided to limit myself to scenic pictures on Panoramio this time.

Greetings, Marilyn

Yes, I can understand that you visited the swamps, even if you are not so much interested in wildlife. But the landscape itself is unique! I wish I had visited the swamps when I was in Louisiana many years ago, but at that time I was traveling by Greyhound bus and they didn't go to the swamps, and I must admit I was more interested in the cities back then!:) BTW, we also have nutrias overhere! Two years ago, I even got the chance to take photos of one. Cheers, Anne

Nice swamp photos Marilyn!

Were there any bitty bugs?

Замечательное фото!!!

Marilyn Whiteley on February 8, 2013

Thank you, Eva, Bruce, and BSveta. We were fortunate that there were no mosquitoes or other biting things this time of year!

Anne, I've just posted my nutria photo for you to see. They're a nuisance, but the young ones are sort of cute!

Hi Marilyn, I have just re-read your résumé, and must admit to it being one of the best here on Panoramio. I know I have said this before but after re-reading it, I feel a bit closer to your personal and photographic world. - Anyway, back to photography - lovely shot. I love these stately trunks proudly waiting here in these swamps. The lighting, with these shadows makes it for me of course. Well seen and produced here. Not bad for a fellow Kodachrome slide user :) Like

Best wishes from the UK, your friend, Herb

Yes, Herb, it's the lighting with those shadows that made me take yet another photo that morning. And thank you so much for your comment. I'm less mobile than I used to be so I take fewer photos, and somehow I'm also spending less time on Panoramio. (I hope to change that after I have one project completed.) But I do so appreciate the ties of friendship that we fine on Panoramio.

Best wishes, Marilyn

My pleasure, Marilyn :) Herb

Wonderful play of light, which really adds to the image. Great contrast and textures, too! Very nice composition, Marilyn! I am sure it is more colorful once the weather warms up, as we can see from the spriggs of green throughout.

Kind regards, Julie
