The former Tollard Royal Hotel is now Tollard Court private apartments. In 2006 a penthouse apartment was created on top of the existing building and included the conversion of the distintive copper clad domed solarium. The entire project was filmed for an episode of Channel 4's Grand Designs programme presented by Kevin McCloud. It was from these doors that Neville Heath, posing as Group Captain Rupert Brook, left late one July evening in 1946 to accompany his companion, 21 year old Doreen Marshall back to her hotel. She was never seen alive again. She was brutally murdered by Heath at Branksome Dene Chine. He was hanged in October of the same year.
