Veterans Memorial Building Night

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Mays Island District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The Veterans Memorial Building sits on Mays Island surrounded by the Cedar River and has served as City Hall up until the flood of 2008. In order to make the structure financially feasible, City Hall was incorporated into the building which would also give Cedar Rapids the distinction of only one of two cities in the world with their government on an island, the other being Paris, France. (Cedar Rapids is now the only city in the world to have its government located on an island).http://www.cedar-rapids.org/government/departments/veterans-memorial/veteransmemorialhistory/pages/default.aspx.
