Ancestry, Family History, and Genealogy: In 1878, John Falconer's business address was 5 Snargate Street, Dover, just a few doors away from what was once the King’s Arms Library.

The move to Bench Street, and expansion into Folkestone, took place sometime before he appeared in the 1897 Dover Year Book where he described himself as a, "Civil, Military and Ladies Tailor", "Hatter, Hosier, Shirt Maker and General Outfitter", and "The only Tailor in the World holding three First Prizes for Cutting"

The 1891 Census for Moray House lists John (aged 44), his wife Cecilia (44), and their six children: Cecilia A. (15), John junior (13), Isabella M. (11), Charles D. (9) Maggie (5), and Mabel (1).

The Dover College Register for the years 1871-1894 states John junior was a pupil there until 1892 when he left to start an apprenticeship in the "outfitting business" in January 1893.

John Falconer's younger brother, Robert (aged 23, a tailor) is also listed in the 1891 Census, along with a "General Servant" called Jessie Martin (22):

Jessie Martin was born in Dover in 1868, the daughter of Jarvis Martin and Margaret Ann Puttee Sutton.

Jessie married Henry Charles Holt in 1893 and then Henry Joseph Sayer in 1901. Her date of death is unknown.
