MANASTIR RAČA / RACA MONASTERY; 2013

Raca Monastery is located near Bajine Basta by the river Drina, in the foothills of Tara. According to tradition, the monastery was built by Serbian King Dragutin Nemanjić (1276-1316). The monastery was repeatedly destroyed and built again from the ashes. The present church was built in the 1826th during Ottoman rule, the monastery was an important center of scribal schools. Turkish travel Zulih dervish known as Evliya Celebi 1630th wrote that the scriptorium had 300 monks-copyists, which catered to 400 shepherds, blacksmiths, economy and other servants. The security guard was 200. Monastery in 1795. reconstructed Hadzi Milentije Stefanovic (1766-1824). Hadzi Milentije was one of the leaders of the First Serbian Uprising against the Turks, and was very successful in freeing Uzice. During World War II the abbot Plato Milojevic has kept him under the stone slab at the altar of the church and he was saved from the Bulgarian punitive expedition in 1943. burned all the monastery buildings. / Manastir Rača se nalazi u blizini Bajine Bašte pored reke Drine, u podnožju planine Tare. Prema predanju, manastir je sagradio srpski kralj Dragutin Nemanjić (1276-1316). Manastir je više puta uništavan i ponovo iz pepela građen. Sadašnja Crkva je građena 1826. Za vreme turske vladavine, manastir je bio značajan centar prepisivačke škole. U obezbeđenju je bilo 200 stražara. Manastir je 1795. rekonstruisao Hadži Milentije Stefanović (1766-1824). Iguman Hadži Milentije je bio jedan od vođa u Prvom srpskom ustanku protiv Turaka i bio vrlo uspešan u oslobađanju Užica. Hadži Milentijev barjak iz 1807. godine se i danas čuva u manastiru. Manastir je spalio 1813. godine Memiš aga ajan srebrenički. Manastir je obnovljen 1818. pri čemu je značajnu pomoć dao knez Miloš Obrenović. U Rači je za vreme Drugog svetskog rata čuvano Miroslavljevo jevanđelje najveći i najvažniji dokument srpske književnosti iz 12. veka. Za vreme Drugog svetskog rata iguman Platon Milojević ga je sačuvao ispod kamenih ploča u oltaru crkve i to ga je spaslo od bugarske kaznene ekspedicije koja je 1943. spalila sve manastirske objekte.
