Telescopes obviously work well for subjects other than stars! Nice detail, wonderful exposure, love the composition!

Hello, sixten and Mr. Verbiage! Thanks, guys, I really appreciate that. Just to give you all the rest of the picture: This heron lives at a pond, in a public park, that has a lot of visitors and the heron is very tame to human proximity (the bird is tolerant and allows people to get very close). I originally shot this in portrait orientation - I was trying to emphasize the long vertical neck in portrait framing. But I kind of missed the framing so I decided to crop the vertical frame down to a landscape orientation, which I think worked much better in the end. The width of the frame as you see it is as-shot (I didn't have to crop at all from the sides).
