Saunton Sands and the Burrows behind are busy with seasiders during the summer, but in the spring and autumn they're gloriously empty. Dramatic on stormy days and sublimely tranquil on a sunny autumn day such as this. Issie, the Italian Spinone is in dog-heaven.

From Wikipedia:

Saunton Sands is a beach in the village of Saunton on the North Devon coast near Braunton, popular as a longboard surfing location. It's southern end 'Crow point', lies at mouth of the estuary of the River Taw. It's part of the wider taw estuary Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Braunton Burrows (a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) backs onto it.

Saunton Sands was used as a location for the 1946 Powell and Pressburger film A Matter of Life and Death (sometimes called Stairway to Heaven), and can be seen where David Niven's character is originally washed up on the beach after he jumps from his plane without a parachute - and survives.

The beach was also used as a location for the First World War trench scenes in the 1982 Pink Floyd film The Wall and later as the backdrop for over 700 wrought iron hospital beds on the cover of their 1987 album A Momentary Lapse of Reason.
