Photo taken a little earlier than the one next to this one. High-level clouds such as cirrus, cirrocumulus and cirrostratus catch the red sunlight long before sunrise (or after sunset). Cirriform clouds will usually not show the twilight colors very intensely since for that, the sky should be exceptionally clear (which is usually isn't if the clouds are there). Cirriform clouds usually show a pale orange, red or purple.atmospheric absorption and Rayleigh scattering, shines on the high stratum of aerosols on its under-surface. Together with the deep blue clear sky this shows like a purple veil

This sky is extraordinary! First I thought this photo is made in Africa! You are an expert for clouds and the according colours!

greetings Alfred

Good one Erik -- I like the commentary on the physics of cloud coloration too!

What a spectacular sunrise, Erik! The colours are so beautiful and the lone tree adds a lot of beauty. It almost looks like a sunrise somewhere in a southern country. A YS for this one! Greetings, Anne

Thank you so much Anne she is my favorite model (the tree). She amazes me time and time again with her striking beauty. She stands there, all alone, in the harsh climate of the sandy dunes.i photographed her under a lot of different conditions(summer, winter, sunrise, mist). If you want to see them all together on one page choose the label Favorite tree.

Cheers Erik
