I have seen your Timor's photos and have read your commentaries on the problems of Timor, Ian. Before the inability to make something positive, I remain with this good man going fishing to the dawn, it is a sign of that the life follows.
The bottom-line for grass-roots people is their commitment to survive. Dawn was breaking as you can see, and he had his net in to make a catch on the ebbing tide. The other end was anchored to a post on the beach and he was slowly drawing this righthand end in. I didn't wait to see his catch, but elsewhere I saw evidence of good catches but of quite small fish.
What intrigued me most was that he was alone. I imagine that members of his family may have come to collect the catch.
Thankyou very much for reading the commentaries on Timor Leste. It is dear to my heart because of my Timorese friends and students that are working there to build peace.
