Why do you take photographs? It's a expensive, frustrating business. It takes a long time to get good at it. With the advent of digital. The cost of entry has dropped. But their is always the latest lens, camera, software update to get. For Film shooters their is the constant cost's of film & developing. Over time you figure out that if 30% of your exposures are descent you are doing really good. If you are serious at all you show what, 10% of what you shoot. For me it's become a old friend that I can call on any time I feel the addiction rear its head. And I do think photography has become a addiction for me. I mean who in their right mind gets up at 4 am in the freezing cold. To try to catch that golden hour of light to make the perfect photo. Even knowing that their no such thing as the "perfect photo". Ok, maybe a really really good one.

As an example, I was on the California coast. It was really early, a long time ago. I was busying myself setting up the tripod, camera, not really watching the scene in front of me. I look up to start setting up the shot and the light has changed! The quality of the light is hard to describe, soft...gold. I was dumbfounded at the scene in front of me. I am thinking I should be taking the shot, but in order to do that I have to look away. I half hardly push the shutter a couple of times wile watching the light change. Time span 1-2 minuets and the light was gone. But I didn't feel bad because I had seen something that turned me into a life long student.

Is it just the striving for the "perfect photo" that gets you going? Are you just recording the world around you for posterity? Are you a artist, that has a vision you are trying to communicate to others? Is it all about the chase for you? Don Albonico
