The moon lies down to sleep over the Big Hole Mountains
This is a great Picture. I have been trying so hard to get a nice photo with the moon, it always comes out in a blur. Great job. Excellent photo. Voted
Thanks so much, Antiguanice! Part of the secret to a moon shot is that they really need a lot shorter exposure time than you'd think.
I did have the camera on a little tripod, since I'd started when it was darker, but realized later I didn't even need it. Several tries were totally washed out because I had things set to a few seconds. But this one I set the camera to 'Program' and it ended up being only 1/40 second! If you can zoom way in on a full moon up in the sky, you can even use 1/250 or even 1/400. But of course being able to get the shot when its still a bit light at sunrise or sunset on a crystal clear day sure helps!
Thanks again, MalasAr! Yes, it softly floated down while I was out there trying to photograph it! It's funny that when I was planning this trip, the goal was to be there for the full moon to be able to try for a shot of it rising over the Grand Teton, (at about where the sundog is on that shot) but clouds and dinner plans didn't allow that. So its so surprising that a moon set was my prize photo from the trip!
thanks so much for that, astro2111 ! and thanks for bringing this backup to the comment page - it's one of my favorite shots, and I'd sort of forgotten about it here! Cheers!
Thanks not1word - especially since you're speaking with the voice of experience there, you of the ethereal yellow moon over the copper canyon...As you may notice, I was so pleased with this one, I rushed right back to the condo and posted this 3 hours before I took it!
Thanks very much Bozidar Poljak - they sure have great moonsets in this valley.
And I'm about a C late on this - but Thanks very much not1word ! It was sure nice that I was so well rewarded for my first try at getting up early to try to photograph a moonset.
Hi Conquilha - Thanks very much! Believe it or not, this is the moon at the other side of night. It's the moon setting just before sunrise. It had been so bright it woke me up, so I just had to head out to try to photograph it, even on hte cold cold morning.

Thank you so much for the tips. I hope that I can soon produce a great moon shot too. Cheers!!!!
This is great. It looks like the moon has landed to the mountains.

The detail that you got in this one is great, kamaly. I love it when the moon is this golden color. Beautiful shot.

This moon with the two fir trees reminds me of the moon with the two lighthouses
Thanks Norrel LOL, and they must work well. I haven't heard of any ships running aground in Teton Valley!
Magnificent Celestial Detail eXample, kamaly.
I completely understand your eagerness to get this one up. It's a fantastic shot.
Great shot!
