East Coker Church

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

St Michaels and All Angels Church, East Coker nr Yeovil. The ashes of poet T.S.Eliot, 1888-1965 are buried in the graveyard and there is a plaque inside the church. There is also a memorial plaque for William Dampier, buccaneer and explorer, 1652-1715 who was born in the village. There is a sad memorial stone at the gate to commemorate the 70 villagers who died from the plague in 1645.

It is a lot for a small village. We often see churches that appear to be in the middle of nowhere and wonder if the plague wiped out the whole village. I'm getting better thanks Ian...can't wait to get some energy back! Not as sunny today as it was on Thursday! Cheers, Rosa.
