Stone wall

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

A mortared limestone wall forming part of the boundary of the Totara Estate. Totara Estate was created by the New Zealand - Australian Land and Investment Company (incorporated in Scotland) to intensively farm sheep for their wool, however its fame today rests mainly on its places as the source of supply of sheep meat carcasses which formed the first shipment of frozen meat from New Zealand to the UK.

This view is to the West, taking in the mainly grain growing and cropping areas west of Oamaru to the Kakanui Mountains in the background.

The land to the immediate left of the wall will have been part of Teschemakers Estate - another of North Otago's large 19thC pastoral farms.
